An outstanding example of ancient Scandanavian architecture in the Sierras of California, Vikingsholm overlooks beautiful Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe. This 38-room Viking fortress, built in authentic medieval style in the late 1920's, can be toured during the summer months.
The well-researched ideas for the architecture came from Scandanavia, while most of the building materials were acquired locally, such as the granite for the foundation and walls. No expense was spared in building and furnishing this castle, and a visit here unlocks the door into another time and place.
