There are many opportunities to bicycle in the mountain air of El Dorado County. Biking in spring and fall can be especially enjoyable, when nature is colorful and temperatures are mild.

Although bicycling on narrow, curvy country roads can be precarious for rider and driver alike, there are many trails available that are designed with safe biking in mind. Here are just a few:

topEl Dorado Trail - Placerville to Smith Flat. A popular walking, biking and horse riding trail. Nicely paved, it meanders through scenic areas.  Click for photos of El Dorado Trail More...

topSalmon Falls Mountain Bike Trail - El Dorado Hills. Moderate 12 miles (intermediate to advanced difficulty). Trailhead is north of the Salmon Falls Bridge, on the left.  More...

topTahoe Rim Trail - The section of the TRT between Tahoe City and Tahoe Vista is great alpine riding, with a little of everything. Much is singletrack. Excellent technical riding.  More...

topAmerican River Bicycle Path - Folsom Lake State Recreation Area's 32-mile long paved bicycle path links the lake with many other county parks along the way before ending in Sacramento. Beginning at Beal's Point at the lake to Discovery Park in Old Sacramento, the trail goes by the southwest corner of the lake, the west shore of Lake Natoma, and the American River. The bike path is considered to be one of the finest of its kind in the nation. The paved path is completed on both the west and east shores. Solar powered 911 yellow phone boxes have been placed along the bike path and are spaced at 1 mile intervals.  More...
